Default layout not updating

Asked by AndyC

Hi,

I seem to be having a strange problem with my Xibo install (1.0.6 server and 1.0.7 clients) in that the default layouts will not change or update. This has beeen working fine, but seems to have now stopped.
Basically, I have 'zoned' my displays by setting the default layout of each area's screens to a layout for that area. So I've got 3 screens with a default layout of 'layout 1' and 4 with a default of 'layout 2' etc.
What is now happening is that if I try and change the default layout of a screen to another layout, the client just displays the Xibo splash screen. If I change back to the original layout as default, it displays that one fine. I can schedule layouts with no problem, just not change defaults!
The only way of getting round this I have found so far is to change the licence key of the client to a new one, and re-register the display. This is a bit messy though, leaving a second copy of the same display in the unlicensed section.
Any thoughts or pointers?

Thanks

It's a bug.

It'll be fixed for 1.2 series as 1.0 is now frozen.

Full details are in the bug report and associated question.

Thanks, I must not have been searching with the right terms :)

performed the workaround as detailed in the bug report and it does seem to have resolved it!

Thanks again

Unfortunately, I still appear to be having a similar problem :( although it could just as well be a different one!

Default layout changes will not take effect. Also, I appear to be unable to schedule any layouts either! All screens are happily playing their current defaults, and if I make a change to those layouts they update. However, I cant change the default in use, and I cant schedule another one. There are no errors when changing default or when adding an item to the schedule, but nothing happens on the screens.

If I change the license key of a client, it updates its layout once, then stops working again!

If this is to do with the above bug, I have tried the bugfix xmds.php file, and also reverting to the previously mentioned method of remarking the lines in the original (which seemed to work for me before) both with no effect.

Any thought?!

Thanks!!

Sorry, that would have helped wouldn't it......

Server version 1.0.6 and client 1.0.7 I believe!

Firstly I'd suggest you upgrade to 1.0.8 as it fixes a critical problem with file downloads in existing layouts. You'll need to upgrade the server and all clients.

If you're still seeing a problem then we can look at it further.

Thanks for that.

I have performed the server update and also updated two of my clients. However, I am still unable to change layouts of schedule items. After the upgrade, the initial layout change I tried worked (swappe dto another default on one client, then swapped back) however after that nothing! :(

In that case there has to be something wrong in your database. Can you send over a mysqldump of your database to <email address hidden> and I'll have a look at it.

Once again thanks very much for all the help with this Alex. You really did bend over backwards to help me!

Looks like the issue was down to one rogue layout which when applied failed to appear on the client and broke all further attempts to change the layout.

Applying anopther (working) layout, restarting the client, and then swapping between any other layouts (but not the rogue one) was all fine.

So thanks again Alex!!

Glad it's sorted. If you can let me know by email which the problem layout was I'd be interested to try and work out what the problem with it was.

Cheers
