Server 1.1.1

Asked by Bartek

Hello,

what do You think about using 1.1.1 in production enviroment with 1.0.x client, of course when it would be relased? Should (not for 100%, feeling only :)) it be stable enough? Bugs in interface are not very important - interesting thing is a client protocol and clients stability at all after switch. No guarantee etc, feelings only :)

Would it be possible to move copy layout blueprint to that release (or at least timebar copying between regions in different layouts)? We need it for some efficient work. Mayble some bounty for that functionality would do the thing? :)

You'd be a brave man in my opinion. Dan's re-written the whole webservice code to get us away from using NuSOAP - although as I understand it the underlying code remains the same.

For a deployment as large and as critical as yours I'd be running a stable version. It's just not fair on Dan to expect development preview releases to be bug-free enough to run in production - especially so early in the release cycle.

Ok, so let's forget about 1.1.1

But what about layout/timebar duplication?
Probably not possible in 1.0.x as there is a place for small fixes only.

Maybe some script what would read db and duplicate layout with next autoincrement id?
I've checked db and it's to complicated to me, a lot of tables involved, layout finally stored in xml, etc.

1.0 series is basically done now. We don't intend to release anything past 1.0.7 (client only) unless there's some horrific security flaw found.

If it's something you need desperately and wanted us to address on a bounty-basis then I'm sure we could cost that for you.

We need a layout duplication, so please give your price if possible :)

Right now our timebars contains 50-100 mpegs in a row. And there is something about 30 layouts like this every month with little differences like two- three mpegs. So guy who need to set 30 almost identical timebars every month begs for copy layout function :)
It could be done by any possible way - hand called system script (i can launch it several times every month - no problem - for example ./duplicate X would generate a copy of no. X layout ), web button in interface etc.
Generaly it could be simple as possible to provide copy function.

As Alex said it would be a brave man that runs the 1.1.1 code in production. The entire XMDS SOAP code has been removed and replaced without nuSOAP in the loop (as it was generating a lot of errors in the log).

If we were to consider this I think we would go with a copy layout button on the layout list in the user interface - of course this would have to be done in 1.1.1, but we could patch a 1.0.6 layout file for you (on the understanding that you would have to re-patch if we did release another 1.0 server).

The relevant blueprint is here: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/xibo/+spec/server-copy-layout

I don't think this will be a huge undertaking - I will message you with a proposal.

It would be nice to get some approximate price before monday 11 a.m. There will be a company meeting connected to some planned network grow, and it would be a great opportunity to take up money subject related to bigger amount of work for layouts designer :)
But ofcourse later would be interesting too, thanks anyway for your answers.

Can you help with this problem?
