I guess it depends what you mean by synchronize.

Do you mean that you want the image to play (for example) 60s into the playing of the layout, or do you want it to display over anything else at a certain time.

If the former, then you can just set your image to play in a region after 60s of other content.

Otherwise, you could schedule another region to play your text and image at given times.

In this case then I think all you need to do is think carefully about your timeline.

You will want something like the following:

Region 1 - This will contain the photos
Region 2 - This will contain the text for that photo

When setting up the timeline you can have region one displaying each photo for a certain number of seconds
Then region 2 will have the same number of text regions, with timings identical to that of each photo.

Remember though that there may be some delay with each region being update. In this case I would make sure that you create the photo region, and text region one after the other. This way I would hope they update at nearly the same rate.

Xibo works very well when coming to synchronizing text and image (even multiple) in different regions. What you need to do is create dataset containing columns:
- full url to image
- text you want to display
then edit timeline for region, add ticker, choose dataset as source, point your dataset. When editing insert image into html code and provide substitution as link to image. create another ticker for text, same dataset, substitute in WYSIWYG editor, format as you wish and voila!
works well on android player, i've been synchronizing up to 4 regions (2 images, 2 text).
TIP: make one large dataset for many ticker. just add "layoutid" column, use it to manage different tickers (use it as "Please enter a SQL clause to filter this DataSet." ).
