backup/move

Asked by Randy on 2009-09-02

Is there a way to backup or move the whole wxBanker program for when I reinstall ubuntu? I would prefer to not have to retype in all my accounts. Thank you.

Hi Randy! This is simple indeed. Using wxBanker 0.4-0.5, you'll want to back up two things:

 - the directory ".wxbanker" in your Home folder (hidden by default in nautilus until you press Ctrl+H)
 - the folder ".wxBanker.cfg" in your Home folder (same)

The first directory holds your bank database (in a file "bank.db"), the second file holds application settings like whether or not you have run it before, if you have it set to hide zero-balance accounts, and such. If you lose this file, it won't really matter, the .wxbanker folder is the important one.

Once you install a new system, just put what you backed up in your new Home directory and you should be good to go!

In the upcoming wxBanker 0.6 this is a little simpler in that everything will be stored in one folder, ~/.local/share/wxbanker, to conform to XDG specifications and give you just one folder to worry about.

Definitely let me know if you have any problems or questions.

I have a problem! I don`t find wxbanker directory and the bank.db. The exporting tool is not working so i need to find to backup. I have tried to make a search on entire system but with no result.

Hi Gabor, sorry for the delay! It is probably easiest to ask a new question, but it should be in ~/.local/share/wxbanker. If not, do a "sudo find / -name bank.db" from a terminal and that should locate it. If you aren't able to locate it, please do ask a new question and let me know your OS and version of wxBanker and we'll get it sorted it!

Can you help with this problem?
