Want to remove ubuntu (installed with the Windows installer) from an XP computer. Computer does not ecognize the Logitech keyboard.

Asked by Duggleby

Ubuntu was installed on an XP machine after downloading it from the web using the Windows Installer. On rebooting, the keyboard was not recognized and Windows was brought up after the usual default period. Windows spent time checking files, indexes and security settings on C:. Still no cursor or keyboard functions. Rebooted and finally got a cursor (after the default wait time) and XP finally appeared. My job now is to get rid of Ubuntu on this machine, (Haven't tried to do anything with a copy of Ubuntu on a laptop on which Ubuntu is only resident but, thank goodness, not installed.) I would similarly like to dump Ubuntu from the laptop.

Hi

Used the add-remove programs option in XP. Inspection of Program Files in Windows Explorer shows that the Ubuntu files are removed. However, on rebooting, the choice between XP and Ubuntu reappears, again with a frozen Logitech keyboard (and mouse). After the timed countdown, XP comes up but with no keyboard and mouse functions. A reboot gets me back to an operative XP (from the inoperative XP screen). Where to go from here (getting rid of the XP/Ubuntu choice screen)?

Please see https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/wubi/+bug/400936
As a workaround edit manually boot.ini and remove the line beginning with C:\wubildr.mbr
