cdma modem connection

I use ubuntu 8.10 inside winxp. my internet connection is cdma modem. ubuntu does not accept to install its installation cd. Thus I cannot find this modem. Due to little technical knowledge, I don’t understand how to connect my net connection. I use help topic as shown in ubuntu but it does not solve my problem. Please help me.
