Ubuntu will not boot

Asked by ElkPilot

I installed Ubunto with Wubi Installer and at the Ubunto Setup Wizard prompt "You need to reboot to complete the installation" I did so.
At reboot I received the option of selecting either Windows Media or Ubunto as the OS to boot. I selected Ubunto and clicked enter. The screen then showed "fine--set--root--ignore flopies/wubi/boot/grub/menu.1st" and I waited several minutes with no boot taking place. I then clicked "Enter" but still no Ubunto takes place.

My computer has two (2) hard drives. The Wubi install was placed on my second drive (by default as I was not given an opportunity to install it to once of the preceding partitions on my main hard drive. Neither Ubunto or Wubi appear under my Windows Programs.

The F8 key fails to provide any assistance when booting.

The second hard drive IS NO listed in my BIOS boot sequence. Could this be the problem?

Thanks for the prompt response. Unfortunately this did not work. I uninstalled test2 v of Wubi and rebooted the computer. The uninstall was successful and I booted to windows normally. I then downloaded and installed the test3 v of Wubi and rebooted the computer. Upon reboot I was offered the option of either booting to Windows or Ubuntu. I selected Ubuntu and encountered the same problem as with the test2 v of Wubi: "Booting 'find/wukbi/boot/grukb/menu.1st' 'find--set-root--ignore-floppies/wubi/boot/grub/menu.1st'

The boot to Ubunto failed again.

I have a similar problem as ElkPilot. Ubuntu was loaded by Wubi (latest version) onto my second hard drive and upon reboot I was presented with Ubuntu on the Windows boot screen. When I press it I get boot failed and I am then taken to a menu where "fine--set--root--ignore flopies/wubi/boot/grub/menu.1st" along with other command strings are listed. I also have the option to go to command line and to edit the commands on the screen.

I went through the listed commands and boot still fails. For one of them it just repeated Fail and I had to hit the reset button to get out of it.

I am running an AMD 900 with 384 Ram. 1st hard drive (hda) is 30GB in 2 partitions of 15 each. Second hard drive (hdb) is 250GB with the one partition which contains backups and photos (8GB worth).

Thanks for your help.

Delete all grldr files from any partition, then download and install the latest wubi version (Test3 at the moment) from the website.

Also delete any menu.lst file before (re) installing wubi

I performed this task and then searched for any menu.1st file before installing wubi(test3). No menu.1st file was located by Windows Search. Download and install of Wubi proceeded normally as before. Reboot once again offered the option of booting to WXPMC or Ubunto. I selected Ubunto and encountered the previous problem.

At this point I am no longer interested in pursuing running Ubunto.

Thanks for the assistance.
