Stops at formatting virtual system drives

Asked by vDub2000

When I try to install Ubuntu using Wubi, it gets to the point where it's formatting the virtual system drives and then it just stops at 33%. I've let it set there for several hours and each time I come back it's made no progress so my only option is to reboot my computer and just go back to using Windows.

This is a known bug, you shouldn't need to wait more than 1-15 min! We are working on it and it's one of the things that we need to fix before the next release. The 33% bug only appears on some computers and not on any of the developers' machines, so it's hard for us to find out what actually causes the bug.
The bug seems to be reproducible on your computer, so you could probably help us here (if you are interested). I'm not working on it personally, so I don't know exactly what is going on right now. Agostino Russo is assigned to the bug, so he'd probably be interested in some more info and perhaps you could help him to run some tests... What version of Wubi were you using when you ran into this bug?

The 33% bug might be solved now. You can download the latest "minefield" build if you want to try: http://cutlersoftware.com/ubuntusetup/minefield.html
All feedback is higly appreciated!

Very well, I tested this latest minefield and finally it worked fine!
Now I have a problem aniway. I tried to get out of my use account (Change user) from Ubuntu Feisty and the screen became completely black. I whaited several seconds, nothing changed. Therefore I turned on the PC forcely and now, when I turn it on, I get an error right after the bios screen telling me that it is impossible to boot XP. It says that I have tor einstall it or try to repair it! XP was OEM version so I don't have a CD to try and repair it.
The booting menù doesn't even appear anymore. the boot sequence stops right after the bios screen with the error I mentioned. What could have happened and why does it happen? Also, is it a Wubi bug that trying to change user account the system freezes in a strange way? I'm really in trouble about it, please, help me rescue my system (Both XP and Ubuntu)....
