Please, be a bit more specific:

Do you intend to keep installed both OS Windows and Ubuntu on your box, or you just want to wipe out Windows and replace it by Ubuntu? (the last would be much easier.)

How large in Gb is your hard drive? How much size would you need to keep for Windows (in the case you want to keep it installed.)

insert your ubuntu cd into the drive and restart the computer and press f12 when promted at the bottom and a gray screen will appear highlight the "cd/dvd" and press enter and follow the instructions. when it asks for a partition you will get 4 or 5 options if you want to keep vista on do the first option if you want just ubuntu do the second option. trust me i had vista and i wanted ubuntu and i wiped out vista for ubuntu. trust me you do not want to have a dual boot pc just having ubuntu gives you even better protection. but you are going to have some minor problems over the next few days if you do this. it is up to you on how you want to do it but wiping out vista for ubuntu would be a better option bro. like i said it is up to you to decide what you want to do not me.

Open your Windows Vista.
Insert the latest version of Ubuntu Live CD in your CD-ROM.
As you install any software, click to install Ubuntu.

Do not use C drive to install Ubuntu. It is preferable, but not essential, to assign a separate drive for Ubuntu. Ubuntu requires at least 4 GB of disk space and 384 MB RAM.

This way you install Ubuntu inside your existing Windows Vista. All your software and data remain intact. When you boot your PC, on your screen you will see an option of booting with either Windows Vista or Ubuntu.

Get the feel of Ubuntu. Keep using it. Installation and the use of Ubuntu is uncomplicated, thanks to the GNU-Linux-Community (the real workers and scripters).

Amongst the many advantages of using Ubuntu, one important advantage is that Ubuntu is Free OS (Operating System). To use Microsoft Vista you got to pay and purchase it. People who won't pay, use pirated copy of Microsoft's Windows Vista.

To avoid the crime of piracy and the associated guilt, especially when you see embarrassing message on your screen that says your Windows Vista is not 'genuine'. It makes tons of sense to use Ubuntu, which if is not as good as Windows Vista, is better than it.

For Installing Ubuntu you don't have to be Einstein. Nonetheless get back here if you have problems installing Ubuntu.

Welcome to the Ubuntu experience.
