What password?

Asked by Alan Smith

I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 from a supplied CD ROM under the 'install inside Windows' option. When I run Ubuntu it asks for a User ID and Password. I have never provided Ubuntu with these and the ones I use with Windows do not work. Help please.

Alan,

Have a look at http://wubi-installer.org/screenshots.php

The first screenshot shows where the username and password would have been entered. You need to use whatever you typed into those fields in the installer dialogue.

Regards,

Andy

Please try installing Ubuntu properly. The Wubi is like building a house on shifting sands but this link shows how to set up a system that combines the strengths of both Operating Systems instead of combining their weaknesses.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot

It looks a little more challenging but is actually a lot easier than it looks and is well worth the effort. Then here's a link for uninstalling the Wubi Wobbly

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide#Uninstallation

Good luckand regards from
Tom :)

PS even if you don't follow the way i suggest then it's still great to welcome someone new into the magical world of Ubuntu - i hope you enjoy it all as much as i have :))

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/re-posting a question just before america arrives online after work/school gives the best chance of getting a good few answers - such is the nature of the internet.

If the problem has been resolved then please follow the link to the forum thread and mark it as Solved but please give us a clue how you did manage to solve it and also use the button under where you type stuff in rather than giving me karma credit points for just sending this note to you.

Apologies, good luck and many regards from
Tom :)
