"load installer component" error

Asked by dfajar2

Hi
i installed a previous version of ubuntu using the windows installer with no problems at all. I decided to try the new wubi so i uninstalled the previous version and downloaded manually wubi-7.04beta.exe and ubuntu-7.04-beta-alternate-i386.iso
Of course, i renamed the ubuntu-7.04-beta-alternate-i386.iso to ubuntu-7.04-beta-alternate.iso and run the installer. No problem here.
When i reboot it the installation process starts but an error appears in the item "load installer components from CD".
i tried the iso-scan and the load-iso options with no luck at all.
The log shows
WARNING **:Configuring 'load-cdrom' failed with error 1
WARNING **: Menu item 'load-cdrom' failed

For this new installation i didn't rename the file. I deleted also the wubi folder before the installation and deleted any information in the registry just in case. At the end i had the same problem with the "load installer component" menu again. Is there any hidden file or something remaining from the previous installation that i should delete?

You can press alt+f2 and see the log in /var/log/syslog for more detailed info. Normally this is due to a kernel mismatch. If you type "uname -r", it should be 2.6.20-12-generic. Then check under /cdrom/pool/main/l/linux-source-2.6.20 to see if it matches

Ok. So i downloaded it AGAIN, but i didn't leave any copy of previous downloaded ubuntu's iso. I noticed that even if leave them in my hard drive and rename them, the wubi installer recognized them and used them. So i decided to uninstall everything, check the registry for wubi traces (just in case), delete all previous images and downloaded again. Finally the installation was good and clean, no problems at all.
Thank you all for your help

Download both Wubi and the required ISO (containing the installation files):

    *

      [WWW] http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=198355
    *

      [WWW] http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.04/ubuntu-7.04-alternate-i386.iso

Then copy both files within the same folder on the machine with no internet access. Then run the Wubi executable. If you have internet access on the machine where you plan to install Ubuntu, you only need Wubi (the first link), Wubi will automatically download the other file as required.

I would prefer a reinstall icon/shortcut in Windows (this can include re-download the iso image, if necessary from other mirror).

So, the user could redownload another image and try reinstallation for this new iso image .

Regards.
