wubi installation ubuntu grub mbr overwritten by berry linux mbr

Asked by Evan Cloe

Ok, I have recently installed ubuntu linux onto my hardrive using the wubi installer. The computer I am using is running windows xp.

When I first installed Ubuntu using the wubi installer, the installation worked fine and I was able to boot into linux from my hard drive. However, when I ran the built in Windows XP restore wizard to recover files from my old laptop, the grub boot loader no longer seemed to point to ubuntu. Instead it pointed to an old berry linux entry which no longer exists. Because of this the only message that I get from grub is "error 15 file not found".

I have tried the supergrub disk but regretably it is unable to fix the linux mbr. What I would like to know is if there is any way of either restoring the ubuntu grub entry, or some way to remove the erronous berry linux entry so that I can once again boot into ubuntu via the wubi installer method. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Everyone.

I am pleased to announce that I have managed to solve my problem. I deleted some files on my C drive that seemed to be linked to the grub boot loader. I rebooted and booted off of the ubuntu entry which failed to load. I then rebooted into windows, and uninstalled ubuntu. I reinstalled ubuntu using the wubi installer on the disk and when I rebooted the computer and booted into the ubuntu OS entry the installation completed normally. Sorry for bothering everyone.
