wubi install 8.04 keep on downloading installatin files regardless that I have got the ISO file already

Asked by alfaromeo

I was trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 within windows XP with wubi.exe. The installation keeps on trying to download 699.1M files during installation while I have the desktop CD ISO already. This is so weird. I tried following ways:

1) load the ISO with a virtual CDROM
2) copy the ISO file and wubi.exe to same folder in my local hard drive.
3) burn the image into a blank CD

But none of above way can solve my problem. I also tried Xubuntu and it goes well but lack of support of chinese input, which doesn't work as well as Ubuntu.

Many thanks in advance.

BTW, there is a similar question before, but that one seems wanna install Ubuntu without wubi.

I notice that it is stated that " physical CDs will be detected automatically" at www.wubi-installer.org/faq, but it doesn't work for me, neither my laptop nor my desktop, oblviously.

Soooo, weird. :(

It seems the Ubuntu system ignore my CDROM at all. Because even I tried the "demo then full installation", it doesn't work. After restart the computer, it goes to windows xp directly.

Are you sure you have the correct CD/ISO? Wubi will try to download again if the CD/ISO is not the correct one or if it is corrupted

Oh, yes. You are right. After trying again and again. I let wubi download the 699.1M ISO file, then compare the MD5 of it and mine. The result shows the file I downloaded is different from wubi's download. And I keep wubi's download and everything goes fine.

Well, the problem is I download the wrong ISO twice from different server, Orz. So, the only thing I can say is my luck is too bad.

Thank you very much, my dear Agostino.
