PC drops to GRUB shell after WUBI installation

Asked by Ahmad Abdel Gawad

Hi there.
I was trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 on my Lenovo ideapad Y580 using the WUBI installer and everything was going smoothly until right after the reboot step. I rebooted and when I chose to load Ubuntu not windows 7 it dropped to the GRUB shell just waiting for input. Not exactly sure what's going on here, but any help is appreciated!
Also, not sure if this is even relevant but just in case it is, this model of the Y580 is the one that has the hybrid storage with the 1TB hdd and the 32GB ssd.
Thanks!

The i7-3630QM has an inbuilt GPU and there is an Nvidia GPU in the mix. This is called Optimus and is a massive headache in anthing but Windows. If you can, disable one of the GPUs in BIOS. Otherwise you will have a lot of headaches with this mess. There is a project called Bumblebee to accommodate it but it is far from perfect. Nvidia stated they were NOT going to support the technology outside Windows but they did then join the Linux foundtion so things may get better.

This may help but I expect you will have loads of issues with this, the dual GPU thing is best, simply avoided.
