If you want to use (crappy) wubi the Ubuntu will install to a file in your NTFS. This is loop mounted at boot and the OS is loaded from there. Wubi is notoriously fragile, hardf to fix if it goes belly up and is directly affected by the shortcomings of NTFS (Particularly fragmentation).

I recommend you resize your NTFS partition and make free space (Windows 7 can do this to it's own partitions from within WIndows). You can then install a REAL Ubuntu install and the dual boot will be handled for you.

Can you help with this problem?
