Wubi failing to start

Asked by Bassel Mohamed

I'm trying to set up Ubuntu 12.04 alongside windows so I downloaded the windows installer (wubi) from the website. I tried to run it several times but it doesnt start. I opened task manager and noticed that the process starts for 1 second then gets terminated. I tried running it in compability mode and as an admin, nothing worked though

Try looking the log file for clues. Wubi is known to fail in some cases when it checks other ISO files in either the same folder as Wubi.exe or in the root of other partitions. The log file is in the %TEMP% directory.
There have also been reports of incompatibility with some versions of python.

Seems like it was checking another ISO indeed. What to do?

You can move them out of the root of the drive or rename them .iso.xxx or something like that.

It looks like you have a number of partitions. Make sure you don't have dynamic drives or that will be your next issue. Ubuntu doesn't see them if they're not in the partition table.

Moved it out as you told and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the help!
