Ubuntu Preparing for first use screen, how long should this take?

Asked by Stephen M

I've been attempting to use WUBI to install Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit) alongside Windows on my brother's laptop, after he saw Ubuntu running on my system and was very impressed with the system, as am I.

But, the question I need to ask is after WUBI has installed Ubuntu on his pc and then re-boot's goes to the screen "Preparing Ubuntu for first use", how long should this screen take before finally launching desktop? As my brother, was on this screen for just over an hour, however the 5 dots on screen were still moving, never frozen, as I have seen on other forums, so I'm just wondering how long this process takes and why it doesn't seem to show the window that shows the progress of the packages, etc. and information about the excellent software and utilities of Ubuntu 12.04 on screen, while completing installation, like when I installed Ubuntu 12.04 (32bit) on my own pc. Do I just need to be a little more patient? ;-)

Hope someone can help with my query.

Thanks.

Thanks for all assistance in my query, but not needed at the moment because my brother is sticking with the other OS until such time it may stop working again as usual with the other OS and may look to installing Wubi & Ubuntu at a later date.

I'm happy with Ubuntu and sticking with it and with the fast responses to my original query I may look to asking again for some advice for myself soon about getting the scanner portion of my Epson printer to work within Ubuntu, I'll come back to you all for some help with that soon.

Thanks again.
Steve.
