I suggest you download and MD5 test the Precise ISO. Install magicdisk or daemontools. Mount the ISO and right click the wubi installer and click 'run as administrator'

Yeah this is likely a bad burn on the CD.

You can download the desktop CD ISO, save it in the same folder as Wubi.exe, and run wubi from there. It will use the ISO (provided you also remove the bad CD from the computer).

Wubi.exe and the desktop CD ISO must be the same release.

I really appreciate the response. However, I am new to Ubuntu. I installed on 2 machines. First on a Vista this is the one that has the above problems. I installed 2x using wubi. Each time it failed as above. Now you give me answers which I have no clue what they mean. I thought that it was an easy install with dual boot. This way I could try it out. Sorry, it has to be easier than this. I spent a lot of time looking to a solution.

The second machine installed ok and dual booted ok. However, now when I boot ubuntu, it works for about 30 seconds and then all stops... need to power reboot.

Sorry I made a mistake, there is no CD involved (I misread the log file). I've linked to the bug report. This means that the install is successful. Just reboot to complete.

Regarding the other machine that freezes, please post the brand/model and graphics card and I'll see if I can find something - there's obviously some incompatibility.

Can you help with this problem?
