wubi installer for 11.10 problems

Asked by reimar

I was try to use the wubi installer for to install Ubuntu 11.10 from within Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and expected to be able to use Ubuntu from within Windows 7. That was NOT possible on both: a Desktop computer and on my new Laptop.

On the Desktop it installed as 2. Boot OS, using the Bootmanager for to chose what OS I would like to start up. In that way Ubuntu works well but as I expected!! I need to run Ubuntu from within Windows 7 as described in your Webpage.

On my new Laptop, it also installed as 2. OS via a Bootmanager but run! I also could not delete the Boot entry from the Bootmanager and have to do a System Restore, which runs now and hopefully will do the job.

So my question is now: How to install and use Ubuntu to and from Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit?

I used the Download and install buttons from your Webpage to fire up the installation:
Download Ubuntu installer for Windows
Click the big orange button to download the latest version of Ubuntu. This Windows installer (Wubi) will help you to run Ubuntu within your current system.
Wubi is an officially supported Ubuntu installer for Windows users. It can install and uninstall Ubuntu in the same way as any other Windows application. It's simple and safe.
I pushed the big orange button called: Start Download // Ubuntu Installer for Windows

My Hardware:

Desktop: MB Asrock 890FX DeLuxe4, AMD CPU 6 Core 1100T, Ram: 16GB Dual, Graphic Nvidia 9800GT, HDD 1TB ++

Laptop: Acer Aspire 4752G, Intel i5 4 Core, Ram 8 GB, Hdd 750GB, Graphis Intel/Nvidia Geforce 610M + 1GB

Please advice how to install and run Ubuntu 11.10 to and from within Windo0ws 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Thanks.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

I didn't downloaded a ISO file, I was starting the installation process from within the Ubuntu Website and that used the file wubi.exe (I think) for to run the installation. The whole installation process were running automatically, on both Laptop and Desktop.

I suggest you download the desktop ISO, mount it with magicdisk or daemontools then install from that

I don't know you understand: I would like to use Ubuntu from within Windows 7 Ultimate, which should be possible regarding the description of the website! I need to run both at the same time on the same machine/computer!
If I use the ISO, I could NOT do that!

Top install separately on the same computer but to run as single OS, isn't a problem, but do what I need it for. Even to run as VM on Windows 7 would not work good enough for my need!

Yes, you can run virtualbox which can mount the ISO and install. You will then have both at the same time, albeit Ubuntu in a Window....

If you do not run a virtualized OS then you will need a dual boot. Wubi is NOT a vrtualization software and the only difference between that and a traditional install is that the instal is stored in a disk file rather than on its own partition. They will not run at the same time and you will still need to select the OS you want to load at boot..

You still didn't get it: I need to run Ubuntu from within Windows 7 and NOT as an second OS!

If I read the following right, that wubi installation should just do that:
Wubi is an officially supported Ubuntu installer for Windows users. It can install and uninstall Ubuntu in the same way as any other Windows application. It's simple and safe

For me I need to be able to run Windows 7 and as an kind Application (even it's an OS) Ubuntu !

Reading on the Ubuntu Website:
If you’ve got Windows, you can run Ubuntu within your current system with the Windows installer (Wubi). That way, you can install and uninstall Ubuntu in the same way as any other Windows application. It's simple and safe.

And that's exactly what I want and need. Period!

Just as a Sidenote: On my new Acer Aspire Laptop 4752G I could NOT run Ubuntu as Live CD, NOT any Menu or even readable Screen come up to chose the next step. And that's quite wired! Even after installing via wubi starting from your Website, I could not start Ubuntu using the Windows Bootmanager, the laptop just hangs! I had manually edit the BCD and manually delete Ubuntu from HDD. And also an System Restore was required to get my Laptop back to normal work. Wired as well.!@

Can you help with this problem?
