Ubuntu will not install (using wubi) on my notebook.

Asked by Gregory Hill, Sr.

During the installation I get the following error message:
extraction failed with code 2
for more information
see the log file c:\users\greg\appdata\local\temp\wub-11.10-rev-245.log, but thefile or directory does not exist on my system!
What can I do to install it on my system?

I suggest you download and MD5 test the ISO
Then install magicdisk or daemontools and mount the ISO
Run wubi setup from there.

Extraction failed with code 2 - probably it didn't completely download the image.

If you internet connection is flaky you should download the desktop CD ISO separately (perhaps using bittorrent) and save it in the same directory as wubi.exe before running.

To review the log file:
Open windows explorer, enter: %TEMP% in the address bar. That will get you to the directory with the log file (windows hides one or more in that path by default, so you can't browse to it without unhiding them - however, paste the full file path into a File Open dialog in notepad will open the file).

Can you help with this problem?
