What release of Ubuntu did you install?

Can you get a terminal console by pressing <ctrl><alt><F2> ?

If so, make sure you have a wired network connection and do the updates:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

which will download all the updated packages and install them in Ubuntu.

Also, what graphics card is the machine using?

sudo lshw -C display

and paste the output here.

It has stopped working again and I don't have an Internet connection because I can't download the driver for my WLAN button

You'll need to plug into a wired connection to get the driver for the wireless LAN card. Hopefully it's supported (if it works with the LiveCD then there's an excellent chance). You can also install drivers off the LiveCD by making sure that the CD is specified as a software source and inserting it.

You should still be able to boot into Windows. Did you make the LiveCD? You should be able to boot off that too.
