Hello,
The only partitions I use are C: and D: (Recovery, almost full). E: thru I: are removable storage. C: has 276 gb free of 450 gb. I don't know how to check if C: is healthy. I'd like to install on C:, obviously.

   Thanks.

So you get the error when you are installing the OS?

Yes. First I got some kind of error (I forget the exact message), so I inserted a DVD in drive E:.
Then, I got the "Permission Denied" message.

Thanks.

Why didn't you say that in your initial question.....?

I suggest you download the Ubuntu desktop ISO, MD5 test it then mount it using magicdisk or daemontools.

Hello,
Is your suggestion something an amateur PC person can handle?

Additional info I should have mentioned: I had an old (09.nn) version of Ubuntu before, I had to uninstall it before installing the new version.

   Thanks.

Yes, It's not hard at all. Just install magicdisk and the md5sum tool mentioned here.

The bit titled: How do I install Wubi on a machine with no Internet connection? actually is the best way to install, even when online and doesn't require 3rd party applications. Although in your case your initial install was likely successful (see bug report), I recommend using the downloaded desktop image.
