file resize error while installing 11.10 in windows 7 using wubi

Asked by Ganesh Mohan

I have windows 7. I am trying to install windows version of ubuntu 11.10 using wubi. I followed the procedure as mentioned in the ubuntu site. It downloaded the tar.xz file and extracted it and while installing it comes with the below error. I have 11GB space in my hardisk (F:) before download. I gave a default of 5GB as the installation size. Appreicate help in resolving this. Thanks

Exception: Error executing command
>>command=C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\pyl7C71.tmp\bin\resize2fs.exe -f F:\ubuntu\disks\root.disk 1500M
>>retval=1
>>stderr=Resizing the filesystem on F:\ubuntu\disks\root.disk to 1536000 (1k) blocks.

>>stdout=resize2fs 1.40.6 (09-Feb-2008)
/cygdrive/c/Users/user/AppData/Local/Temp/pyl7C71.tmp/bin/resize2fs: No space left on device while trying to resize F:\ubuntu\disks\root.disk

If you download the Ubuntu ISO, MD5 test it then install magicdisk, you can the mount the ISO (Windows cannot do this on it's own). You can then run Wubi from there.

This is a bug that's new with release 11.10. When installing to a FAT32 partition you cannot run wubi.exe in standalone mode to install.

So you either have to install the old way which is by downloading the desktop cd iso into the same folder as wubi.exe before running, or burn a CD and run it from there

Thanks a lot for the replies. Yesterday I managed to downloaded 10.04 and was able to install it. It seems to work fine though I need to connect to internet yet.
