11.10 not booting-error "prefix"not set

Asked by bcpati

 I was using dual booting xp & 10.04.3 It was ok. I removed 10.04 , made a 11.10 desk top-i386.iso cd & attempted installing

11.10 in xp using wubi. When booting it pointed out "Try (Ind0,0):NTF 85: Error-'prefix' is not set". After sometime it booted and showed a black screen.

I feel it is difficult to overcome this & Ihave to go back to my old xp & 10.04.

Dual booting 11.04 in xp using wubi has also failed.

Am using P-4 3ghz , 1GB RAM ,320 GB HDD.

This might be an issue running 11.10 on your hardware. Boot instead from
the CD you created and select "Try it" without installing. That should boot
to a live desktop . If instead you get a black screen then it points to
either problems with your graphics card or some other problem supporting
11.10 on your hardware.

What graphics card do you have?

Can you help with this problem?
