Ubuntu 11.04 hangs PC at shutdown & need to hard reset to turn off PC

Asked by shreyas nayak

I am completely new to linux. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 in the Win 7 by wubi.exe so I could remove it from Add/Remove programme if it does not perform well. This OS is very good but it completely hangs PC when I try to shut it down. I searched on the net & got some suggestion that there may be problem in GRUB. By considering this I run following command

shreyas@ubuntu:~$ sudo grub-install /dev/sda
[sudo] password for shreyas:
Installation finished. No error reported.
shreyas@ubuntu:~$ sudo update-grub
Generating grub.cfg ...
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-8-generic
Found Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sda1
done

But yet PC hangs on shutdown, What is the problem? Is there any conflict between Win7 & ubuntu because I have loaded ubuntu inside the Win7? Because of this problem I have to turn off computer by hard reset every time. Please answer.

You shouldn't need to hard reset. This will eventually corrupt the wubi virtual disk. Instead use Alt+SysRq R-E-I-S-U-B. This will cause a reboot.

In terms of the hanging, it's likely a hardware issue/incompatibility. Sometimes there are published workarounds so it's best to list your full computer brand/model/graphics card/wireless card etc.

Unfortunately I do now not have the powers to change the kingdom of this query to SOLVED, EXPIRED or INVALID. Someone here at Launchpad both supply me that permission or clearly apply the exchange in state to this query, please. you can see more details here https://pcedged.com/

Can you help with this problem?
