unistall & Installation problems using Ubuntu Windows Installer 11.04

Asked by Todd Schaffer

When installing Ubuntu inside windows using Ubuntu Windows Installer (Wubi) i decided to uninstall it and install xubuntu 11.04 instead, but it will not let me select it desktop environments list in " Wubi Windows Ubuntu Installer.

Why will it not let me select it from the list?
It would before installing the Ubuntu 11.04. inside windows.
When uninstalling Ubuntu inside windows is there any files that leaves behind from preventing this?

There is no Ubuntu Netbook any more.

Install magicdisk and download the XUbuntu ISO, MD5 test it using:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

Then mount the ISO and you can run wubi from there.

If you use Win7 you can resize your NTFS and create free space using Windows itself. You can then install to the freed space and have a real dual boot. You will find it a LOT easier to troubleshoot if Ubuntu goes wrong and your Ubuntu will not be affected by the fragmentation in NTFS

If you have an ubuntu ISO either in the same directory as wubi.exe, or on the root of a drive (C:\xxx.iso) or on a CD/USB that is on the computer... it will find it and only offer Ubuntu to install. (Same if you had a xubuntu ISO it would only offer xubuntu).

If you just want to try different desktops you can install them from ubuntu. e.g. http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/xfce

No files are left behind except wubi.exe and some files/folders in the user %temp% directory. Please pastebin the logfile from the %temp% directory: wubi-11.04-rev211.log

To do this, click , Start and enter: %temp%\wubi-11.04-rev211.log
Then copy the contents to http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/ and respond here with the pastebin address.

Thanks
