(Wubi) Ubuntu hangs on installation

Asked by Anthony Brito

So here's the deal. I have recently downloaded Wubi on this computer so that could try out Ubuntu without losing my OS. So I installed Wubi rebooted and I managed to get to the installation everything works fine until the installation hangs. It stops after copying the files and simply says "Ready when you are." According to recent Google searches the problem can be solved with lower case usernames and passwords however, this does not solve my problem and I had ensured that everything was lower case. So in short i'm trying to install Ubuntu through Wubi and the installation hangs at about 80 percent of the way through. Any help would be appreciated.

No idea what could be causing it. Try running chkdsk and then defragmenting your drive before trying again. If it still happens, I suggest capturing your logs:
Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get to a command prompt
sudo sh /host/ubuntu/install/custom-installation/hooks/failure-command.sh

This will save a copy of the logs in \ubuntu\installation\logs.zip which you can attach to a bug report (not here).

I forgot to mention that you could also post your full machine specs: brand/model/graphics card/wireless. Sometimes this can also be an issue. It doesn't sound likely in this case but really it's hard to tell so it's best to cover all bases.

I am using a Gateway GT5244E I'll post a link to the specs.

I will try what you suggested and get a log of the error.

That's odd. Make sure you enter everything exactly as written (case sensitive). You could also try:
sudo zip -r /host/ubuntu/installation-logs.zip /var/log

If you want do both (the failure command first, so I can see why it failed).

Try it with a different username - something totally plain - but different to what you've tried already e.g. brito or abrito (different to your windows user name). Just because this seems quite a strange problem.

PS your specs look fine
