I downloaded UBUNTU onto a CD - this cd doesn't boot.

 I downloaded UBUNTU onto a CD, incerted the CD into the CD drive then turned the PC on -- UBUNTU doesn't boot.

I receive an error message, "...ISO file unknown..."

What is the next step?

Did you copy the ISO file to the CD, or burn the image. See instructions here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download Step 2, click on Show me how.
