How are you installing the OS? Using Wubi or are you booting to the CD/USB and installing that way?

Let's try to establish more clearly how you are installing Ubuntu. Please describe the steps you are taking to install Ubuntu, and specify at what point you are asked for a password.

The wubi install screen (within windows) forces you to enter a password twice. They need to match. That's the password you need.

It's confusing because you can enter a different username (the default is your windows username transformed to lowercase), BUT wubi sets your "display name" to your Windows username no matter what Ubuntu username you entered.

Anyway - I suspect you're entering your Windows password. That seems to be the most common problem.

Can you help with this problem?
