All installers failed(can't do actual disk)

Asked by JesusJones

Ok so i tried Windows installer to install an x86 version of Ubuntu 11.04 onto my hard drive and it tells me this error "pyrun.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR1"
then it does one for DR2, DR3, and DR4 and does it infinitely until i close the process.
i tried the usb installer same problem and my computer won't read the usb drive on boot.
i can't afford cds and dvds and have no blank ones around.
is there any way i could potentially make it boot from the usb or some way i could rectify the error that occurs on windows?

A normal installation of Ubuntu (alongside your other operating systems, if any, such as Windows) can be accomplished by burning the Ubuntu .iso image to a CD/DVD or by writing it to a USB flash drive. If you have a USB flash drive, I recommend you install in this way. If the only reason you were using the Wubi installer (to make your Ubuntu installation be stored *inside* Windows) was because you don't have any available burnable CD's or DVD's, then I recommend installing normally with a USB flash drive. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download explains how (see Step 2).

However, in case you want to try to fix your problem installing with Wubi, I am marking this question as pertaining to Wubi, and leaving it open so that people know you still need an answer. If at any point you consider the matter Solved and don't want further assistance, please just mark it as Solved (you can do that at https://answers.launchpad.net/wubi/+question/167651).

The wubi issue can be resolved by unplugging unnecessary devices e.g. MMC readers, phones, USB peripherals, printers etc. But if you can figure out how to get a bootable USB going then that's a good route to go.

Hope this helps
