Trying to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 7 with Wubi, permission denied.

Asked by Dominic Houslacker

Hello, and I know this question has been asked before but I still don't have a clear solution for it. I'm using Wubi to install Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7 but when I start installing it after some seconds it says 'Permission denied.'
An answer would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Did you run it as an administrator?
Did you use wubi.exe from the Ubuntu ISO or CD? if so did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

"Permission denied" by itself is pretty meaningless. You need to refer to the log file which you can find by looking int he %temp% directory. (Hit START key, enter "%temp%" without the quotes, the look for wubi-xx.xx-revxxx.log).

You can post that to http://pastebin.ubuntu.com

The most common failures are:
1. problems using the torrent client to download the ubuntu CD ISO because of a firewall (when you are running wubi.exe standalone)
2. bad cd burn (if running from a cd)

To make thinks easier, download the CD ISO yourself and place it in the same folder as wubi.exe before running. Get them both from the same location (release has to match). e.g. for 11.04 go to http://releases.ubuntu.com/11.04/

Can you help with this problem?
