Not a good start x 3

Asked by pepper itunialbrian price

I have just installed the latest Ubuntu (11.04 ?) onto my HP 6740UK machine.... 64 bit

I have installed it onto a SSD Drive (that was not easy) using WUBI rather than the download disk which woud not work

I have Ubuntu installed OK..

Questions:

Where is the new buzzy graphic launcher.... I can't see it??

How do I install my Lexmark X6650 Printer - Ubuntu cannot find a driver

Not a good start.... everytime I have installed Ubuntu it is far from Plug and Play and needs a degree in gobbly-gook to get it working

You might have to enable proprietary video drivers to get the new interface -- if not enough video capability, the interface defaults back to classic.

Flash for 64 bit Linux can be downloaded here:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Make sure to select the APT for Ubuntu 10.04+ version

Thanks for the forum link on the printer... Another Plug-n-Play, easy to use, customer friendly fix :)

Not sure how to do half of the programing thing so I will most probably use Ubuntu without a printer.

I have downloaded the flash for 64 bit.... and ?

What do I do with it?/... I think it is asking to be opened with some program but nothing seems to do the trick.

Does everybody who tries to convert to Ubuntu have these problems?... if so what's the retention rate? :)

Sorry to hear you are having problems, I guess it depends upon the hardware. I just attached a new HP deskjet, and it was automatically discovered. Much to my surprise, I could even scan from it (my first attempt at scanning on Ubuntu). I do recall much pain with wireless a few years ago, having to use proprietary drivers and wrappers, but these days, the open source drivers and even firmware work fine for me. I use the 32bit os versions instead of the 64 bit because I feel it's more likely to 3rd party versions of sw available, but cannot think of any specific sw.

Can you help with this problem?
