install fails at "loading from the CD"

Asked by MattJhsn

The installer gives the message "installer has failed at loading from the CD" or similar. Note I have no cd in the drive, it is all on the HD downloaded by the win .exe.

This is after the reboot to linux and continuing the install. The wubi was downloaded from download.com and then auto-downloaded the iso. also tried picking edubuntu and same result.

how do I clear out the stuff to start over.

Each download is 4 hours, so if I can do it without re-downloading the iso that would be nice.
thanks

The 7.1 version works from the LiveCD. (i downloaded ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso, put it on a cd and booted it). I guess I would like 7.1 with virtual file system.

I went ahead and used the regular version 7.1 installer and it worked fine. It resized the partitions though so I only have 280meg left on the XP partition. It's working though. I'll close this question. -Matt
