Ubuntu 10.04 LTS using Wubi Installation Problem on IBM Thinkpad R50e

Asked by MATTHEW HALOS

There is an installation problem when installing Ubuntu 10.04 LTS using Wubi on my IBM Thinkpad R50e.

My operating system is Windows XP Professional.

After Wubi installed the Ubuntu Installation Files on my hard drive, I restarted my computer.

After restarting, I selected Ubuntu on the selection of operating systems.

First, I saw the introductory logo of Ubuntu (when the ubuntu loads its files).

After that, instead I will saw the installation progress or the installation of language packs, only Black Screen will appear on my Laptop screen.

I have waited for an hour, but nothing happens. It did not pushed through with the installation.

Anyone who has the solution to this problem?

Thanks!

What video chip do you use?

I'm using a built-in video chip/card.

Brand: Intel

Add the boot option:

nomodeset

That snippet of the log file doesn't state the error. Try pasting the whole thing to http://pastebin.ubuntu.com and post the pastebin address back here.

I have tried this but the problem is still there/not yet solved.

As bcbc has requested, please post the entire contents of the log file on http://paste.ubuntu.com, and then post a link to it here.

(Sorry about the URL inconsistency. http://pastebin.ubuntu.com and http://paste.ubuntu.com will both work.)

It looks like you need the boot option: i915.modeset=1

Refer to this on how to supply a boot workaround to Ubuntu (including Wubi - post #8): http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132
