Uninstalling?

Asked by Callum

Hi, I recently downloaded 11.04, and the Broadcom Firmware wasn't installed. So I re-downloaded 11.04 onto a Memory stick (I had used Wubi before) and Wiped the Partition I had installed Ubuntu on. Not knowing at the time, Ubuntu still popped up on the Select OS screen, and My Laptop (a Dell Inspiron 1525) thinks Ubuntu is still on there, even though there isn't any file to do with Ubuntu on my PC, and no USB's or CD's were plugged in. Can anyone help me get rid of this, as If I choose to only use windows 7, Ubuntu will still pop up even though not being there, just annoying me.

Thanks
Callum :)

Your question about getting your Broadcom card working on Ubuntu 11.04 is a separate issue from your question about how to remove Ubuntu from your computer. I recommend that you post a separate question about that.

You said that you had installed Ubuntu with Wubi, but you also said that in an attempt to remove it, you had "wiped" the partition it was on. Since Wubi does not create partitions (it leaves your machine's partitioning layout exactly as it was before), I am confused as to whether or not the system you are trying to fully remove really is a Wubi system. Can you clarify this? Please describe the way you installed it, as well as the steps you took to attempt to uninstall it, in detail.

See...

The part that you're referring to is the windows boot manager - if you have windows 7/vista then either bcdedit (built-in Microsoft command) or easybcd (downloadable application) will remove it. There may also be other registry entries you want to clean up.

For broadcom 43xx cards see here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1604868
