I want to go back to 10.10 from 11.04 - how do I do it?

Asked by Andrew Corser

I have searched for how to go back from 11.04 to 10.10, but without success:

Do I need to uninstall 11.04? I am on a dual boot (still got Vista available) Toshiba laptop. I installed 10.10 as my first proper go at Ubuntu, and I liked it. I was getting used to it when I was offered the update to 11.04, which I accepted, but this I do not like - not least because it doesn't work with a second monitor (I have an unanswered question about this on launchpad) and there seem to be lots of problems which need me to be more techie than I am as yet with Ubuntu.

So, how do I do it? I still have the 693 megs of the 10.10 install file in my download folder - can I just re-install it over the top of 11.04? Or do I have to uninstall 11.04 first? I don't get any response to my search for "uninstall Ubuntu 11.04" anywhere.

Please could I have some "human" help on this?

Thanks.

Put your cd in the drive, and install it over the 10.04 partition

"Prober Job!" (or "ober da!", as we should say in Cornwall).

Many thanks, Paul. What I actually did was go back to the wubi.exe that I had used to install 10.10 from Vista in the first place, and, guess what, the first thing it told me was that it was going to uninstall 11.04 for me.

So here I am, back in 10.10 - a happy, Cornish bunny!

I will keep an eye on Natty Narwal, and see how it progresses before I have another go at it - first off, learning a bit more about linux etc through 10.10.

Thanks again.

Andrew
