Dualboot install problem on restart

Asked by William Pearse Sturgiss

I installed Ubuntu in the past (as a dualboot with windows 7, but for various reasons never got around to trying it.
Now I am installing it again, and it goes through the entire installation process and then says it has to restart. I let click restart, and it tells me to remove the install disk and press enter, so I do so, but then when it restarts and I choose for it to boot Ubuntu, it tries to load it but fails. It says this:

Try (hd0, 0): NTFS5: No Wubildr
Try (hd0, 1): Extended:
Try (hd0,2): invalid or null
Try (hd0,3): invalid or null
Try (hd0, 4): EXT2:

any ideas?

I am also probably going to wipe my windows its getting fat, so if i need to wipe it all, that isn't a problem.

Likely you have an ext4 partition (/dev/sda5) that wubildr.mbr cannot read - it hangs up on these.

But normally it should find the wubildr on the root of C:\ (/dev/sda1?)
The reasons it might not find wubildr are:
1. the file is physically > 137GB from the start of the disk and you have an old BIOS that cannot read this far
2. the partition is excessively fragmented
3. it's not there

Can you help with this problem?
