Asked by Pierre Draper

I have windows XP & Ubuntu 11.04 on my desktop as a dual boot. Is there any way I can remove XP without having to reinstall Ubuntu?

Did you use Wubi (install Ubuntu inside Windows), or did you make a true install?

Then that makes this a LOT harder. Personally I recommend you make sure your backups are recent (settings as well as user docs) then just do a fresh install then restore the settings. I found this which may give how to do it but it's not a simple process by any means:

I was afraid I'd have to do a fresh install. But I was hoping there was an easier way. Ok, well thanks for the input.

It's possible to migrate the wubi to partition. You have to make a partition for it first e.g. boot an Ubuntu live CD and use Gparted.

There is an option to migrate just from the virtual disk (root.disk) via a live CD (technically if you back up the root.disk to an external drive then you could replace Windows + Wubi with just Ubuntu). But this is riskier. I prefer to migrate without overwriting Windows (you can remove Windows later).
PS with the root.disk migration it only works if you have just the single root.disk (i.e. haven't created a separate home.disk, usr.disk etc).

Migration script here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1519354

Can you help with this problem?
