Gateway NV59C - Backlight issues

Asked by Charles Haithcock

So, I'm trying to install Ubuntu onto my laptop.

The problem is my laptop is not a big fan of Linux.

When I tried installing Wubi, the backlight to my laptop's screen wouldn't work unless the system idled until the screen turned itself off. Then, upon waking it up, the backlight turns on.

This happened on Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Netbook, Wubi, and Fedora Core (these are the only ones I've tested so far.

Please help!

cat: /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness: No such file or directory.

I looked myself out of curiosity. There is /proc/acpi/video/GFX0 and in this directory is...

Also, on the Directories, ignore the "/". I put those in to represent them as directories. I don't know what the extensions were of the files, however, they did open in the editor and contained code.

Bug 573984 refers to Lucid in the title, but the patch referred to near the bottom (Kamal's patch) is for Maverick/Natty.

Can you help with this problem?
