PC has problems registating my Ubunto log-on

Asked by tora optun

Help!

Any reader should note that they are dealing with someone with an almost total lack of experience and knowledge about computers and their software. I spite of this I decided to install Ubuntu on my new computer. I did this not out of a rising curiosity about computers, but because I've met many cool, smart people who all recommended that I replace my Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Ubuntu. Anyhow, I've successfully installed Ubuntu, and its been working fine for a month or so but now my computer refuses (in matters of electrified objects I fear I will always remain slightly pantheistic in my descriptions) to log on to Ubutu!

I turn the computer on. "Please select the operating system to start:" it tells me. But when I move the highlight to my choice (Ubuntu, NOT Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition) and press ENTER it sort of it says something like this "Try (hd0.0): NTFS5 No wubildr" just for a couple of seconds before it returns to the menu for selecting operating systems. And this goes on and on.

Anybody know what to do about this? I would be very happy if someone could help me out.

This sort of thing is harder to fix as you have used crappy wubi. If you'd used a proper Ubuntu install you'd have an easier life.

Can you give the exact text, it may help

Dear actionparsnip

I'm sorry for using "crappy wubi".

This is the exact text;

Try (hd0.0): NTFS5 : No Wubildr
Try (hd0.1): NRFS5:

Then the screen goes black, and I'm back to the menu for selecting operating systems.

Thank you.

Hi tora optun,
Please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide#Warning

There is a link there to the Wubi megathread on ubuntuforums.org that shows how to fix the problem. Please read the first post there and let me know if you need any more help. You should be looking at Problem #2, Solution #1 - and then there is a Permanent Fix to follow (once you get it booting again).

If you have any questions please let me know.

@actionparsnip,
Please refrain from calling wubi crappy. You are entitled to your opinion, but it's not helpful and it diminishes those people asking for help. It also is against the Ubuntu code of conduct.

If you could just assign them to the Wubi project then I will help them
Regards
