I haven't seen this sort of problem before. But more information is better. If you can boot an Ubuntu CD as a Live CD (Select "Try it" or "Try it without installing") - then download and run the http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net/ and paste the results to http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/ - and then reply here with the pastebin address I'll take a look.

If you have fakeraid metadata present you might want to try booting with the nodmraid boot option.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/ReleaseNotes#Dmraid%20active%20by%20default%20on%20Desktop%20CD
Quote:
Dmraid active by default on Desktop CD
Dmraid "fake raid" devices are supported out-of-the-box on the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop CD, and are detected and activated by dmraid on boot. Ubiquity will offer to install on the RAID array, and not on the RAID members.

The automatic activation of dmraid can be disabled with the "nodmraid" boot option, available by pressing F6 in the CD boot menu. This can be useful for setups which have fakeraid metadata present on the disks, but where dmraid activation would be undesired or cause problems.

Reviewing the bug, I'm wondering if this is specific to Win7 amd64 and/or dynamic disks (or fakeraid..)

Sorry I have no ideas at this point, but I am following this bug.

Dear Friends,

I found a simple way to install Ubuntu in my Dell inspiron N5010, i want to share it also. My laptop is a brand new and its filly updated by windows patches and security updates. I have tried more than 5 days to install ubuntu using wubi, but always i got the message " No root file system is defined". One of my friend have an old laptop which is dual booting Mac osx snow leopard and Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and both are pirated. he was not using the update for windows, as it is the non genuine version. I tried to install Ubuntu using wubi in his laptops "E" drive and succeeded. His hard disk have 320 gb, first 100mb is for system reserved, 2nd "C" partition is for Windows 7 and 3rd "D" is for Mac. Now he can triple boot all these OS. Now the question is, why i can't install the same wubi and ISO image in my laptop? Last i decided to run ubuntu in my laptop @ any cost. so i tried to install wubi to my laptop "E" drive, after reboot its shows the error again. But i never mind, i reboot to windows and i have copied the ubuntu installed folder from my friends laptop and paste to my computer "E:\ubuntu. After i reboot to ubuntu and its work, after login to ubuntu using my friend user name and password, i have created new user with admin privileges for me and now enjoying ubuntu... I know this will not solve the problem, but for me i don't have more time for digging.... I am not a geek for ubuntu.. So i am satisfied and now trying to install mac osx along with windows and ubuntu...

Thanks.
