After upgrade 10-32 Desktop, can't boot into Ubuntu anymore

Asked by andrew prudente

After I upgraded the kernel, it won't boot into desktop anymore. The selection screen comes up for Windows or Ubuntu but it never reaches the ubuntu submenu. It simply reverts back to the HP splash screen and then back to the top selection screen. How can I go back to the old rev I had. I don't want to lose my data if possible.

When the new kernel was updated, it was probably relocated the the boot vectors are not going to right location to start it. Something like that. I am using an HP HDX 16-1140US Notebook PC. It can also run Vista Premium.

If you boot to the old kernel, does it boot ok?

See the Wubi megathread, Problem #2, Solution #1: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1639198 After fixing, you can apply the Permanent fix.

The problem is not related to the kernel, but the grub-pc update.

I re-installed 10.04 and disabled upgrades.
