Ubuntu 10.10? after latest update, booting resets the computer

Asked by Bruce Ordway

I have a dual boot (Win 7 and Ubuntu latest release, not 10.4) and it has been very stable. I updatedthrough update manager this AM and I saw kernal updates, they completed, the installation screen said I needed to reboot, and I said YES. Now when I get to the OS selection screen during bootup, I select Ubuntu, and the screen turns black and I briefly see 'File not found' and then the system re-boots.

How can I repair?

Please see this "Wubi megathread" http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1639198 Problem #2, Solution #1.

Although you installed the 'latest' - the ubuntu.com website is confusing in that the windows-installer version is actually set at 10.04.1. And by the sounds of it this is what you installed - and this is also a very common problem right now (since a grub2 update released on November 20th).

Can you help with this problem?
