Computer won't poweroff at end of shutdown Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop

Asked by John Richardson

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655 with Ubuntu 10.10 installed through Windows (wubi). the computer does not poweroff when shutdown. The screen shows the Ubuntu icon or when pressing F1 or other keys the shutdown sequence with the end saying Killed. This problem was the same in 10.04 and when I loaded Ubuntu alone on the computer. Can someone help with this?
Thanks,
John

The fix I gave in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/137213 may also fix your power issue, lets see...

Try adding: "apm power_off=1" to your boot options as described here.http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9986484&postcount=10

Previously the computer would freeze on a logo screen with the need of an extended hold down on the power button to complete power-off. Results of suggestions: 1) actionparsnip's; now restart works and shut-down freezes on black screen with a touch of the power button completing power-off, 2)bcbc's now, on shut-down, screen freezes with logo, instead of blank, with slight touch of power button completing power-off. We have improvement but power-down is still not complete.

Problem solved by moving Ubuntu on to it's own partition. Running through wubi was the problem.
