can i install wubi on a wd passport 80gb hd?

Hi,
I downloaded wubi (wubi-installer.org) and run it,
it's default choice is to install on d:
d: is a westerdigital passport usb 80g hd. (long name)

I was wondering can i use that?

or will grub go grubs if it's not there sometimes on boot...(not a permanent hd)

it offers to do it, but is it a right choice,
or will that cause system hang when usb hd isnt there, at times, on boot?

I'm not an expert at this particular subject, but as far as I know it shouldn't be a problem. As long as you don't choose Ubuntu in the boot menu I don't think grub should even be loaded and so it shouldn't be a problem if the whole wubi installation isn't actually there for the moment. The boot menu is handled by windows, so it doesn't need the Wubi installation. Grub handles the loading/starting of Ubuntu, once you have chosen to start Ubuntu (AFAIK)...

We take no responsibility for damage that might be caused by our software (see license for details) or any advice about it. I think it would be quite "safe" to test this, though. You should probably be able to connect the hd and then uninstall Wubi again, if it would cause problems.
