switching from wubi install to full install

Asked by eldergnome

Currently running 10.04 on a dual boot (WUBI) with Windows XP. Transferring data prior to doing a full Ubuntu installation. My plan is to save a copy of the HOME folder to an external drive after all data is transferred. After doing a full system install of Ubuntu I will transfer the HOME folder from the external drive. Is this approach going to work? Is there a better way? Thanks in advance for any input.

FYI LVPM hasn't been updated since 8.04 and one of the issues is that it doesn't create the fstab properly (the vol_id command used to get the partition uuid's has been deprecated). It also installs grub-legacy in both the wubi install as well as the migrated install and MBR.
The wubi install can't use grub legacy to boot - it will probably use the leftover grub.cfg but no more updates will take place (moot if you uninstalled).

Anyway - the point is - check /etc/fstab - it probably needs some editing, and consider whether you're ok with grub-legacy since it is not supported much anymore.
