Cannot boot into wubi install of Ubuntu 10.10 beta after doing a normal system update and the required sytem reboot. 29/09/2010

Asked by Anthony Baynes

I booted into my Wubi install of Ubuntu 10.10 beta today, 29/09/2010, and did a normal system update. As I hadn't updated for a couple of weeks, it was around 300mb in size. Everything went smoothly and I was informed after the update that I had to reboot the machine. I did so, and found that I was unable to boot into the Wubi install, my computer reboots every time I try. Choosing the default Windows 7 boot option works perfectly.

Any assistance in resolving this matter would be appreciated.

Best regards,
Tony Baynes

Check in known bugs of Maverick Beta if Wubi works. If I remember, they had some problems.

When I boot up the computer I'm presented with the option to either boot into Windows 7 (this is the default) or to boot into Ubuntu. When I select Ubuntu, the screen goes dark, and the computer reboots after around 12 seconds.

I linked to a bug... this bug describes booting issues with 10.10. I had a similar problem when my computer rebooted every time I selected Ubuntu. I have a workaround, but no fix. The bug describes it.
