Wubi will not completely load 8.04 into Windows 98.

Asked by David Orosz

I am running Windows 98 and am trying to install Ubuntu 8.04.4 through a Wubi installation. I did create a good ubuntu iso cd image disk. All programs were shut down and only Wubi was running. Wubi will process roughly 75% of the ubuntu iso cd image disk, however, Wubi will STOP and tell me that it could not access the cd disk. Some files were installed onto the hard disk, but we did NOT achieve complete installation. What am I doing wrong? I want to keep BOTH Windows 98 and Ubuntu 8.04 without having to repartition the Hard drive.

You must check MD5 of your ISO disk.

You can also boot from the CD and get it to check itself.

I've also seen cases where defragging is required prior to installing wubi. You can defrag a couple of times to make sure that the virtual disks are not excessively fragmented.

These are just suggestions. I'm not really sure from your description where it went wrong. You can also check the wubi log file. Usually in the %temp% directory. (Haven't installed 8.04 wubi myself so you'll have to give it a try - it'll be called wubi-8.04.4.log or similar.

Can you help with this problem?
