Another solution, if you want mainly to evaluate Ubuntu, is to install a virtual machine under current OS, and after to install Ubuntu inside this virtual machine.
It will avoid you doing multi-boot before being sure you are interested in Ubuntu.
The only real constraint is RAM (you'll need to allocate 250 MB of PHYSICAL RAM to virtual machine).
I'm working at home with Ubuntu, but for debug purpose I run daily virtual machines with Ubuntu, and for using Windows software I use also daily virtual machines with XP.
Instead of solving problems, you can avoid them.
Nota Bene: if I remember, Wubi installs itself in Windows boot-loader, you have nothing to configure.

As virtual machine, I use VirtualBox.

Please, can someone give an answer to the question? I'm interested, if this is possible, because Macs have another boot mechanism (EFI)...

Some people dislike to create new partitions, and a virtual maschine isn't a perfect solution, too.

@naich
Gparted manages EFI BIOS.
There are multi-boot Darwin/Ubuntu, but I don't know of people use Grub or Apple downloader. If I remember, they install Grub, which can boot Ubuntu, or give control to Apple downloader.
You will have to search on Google, or in this forum as such people asked question in this one.
As Darwin request such computer I don't have, I can't help you.

Can you help with this problem?
