You can install a true dual boot install of crappy wubi, you can boot to the live cd and resize the ntfs partition to make space for Ubuntu. Make sure you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded and verify the CD once initially booted to.

If you have ran through the installation of a true install (via booting to the live cd, not wubi). Then you can boot to the live cd and reinstall grub.

Then you have used wubi and the link is useless to you, wubi comes with a tonne of pitfalls like this one. My experience of wubi is minimal as I think it is a grotesque idea. This link may have some nuggets of gold for you.

i am not sure what is the core of your problem, but my advice is this, use true dual booting. it is more efficient, + wubi is CRAPPY. but since you do not have a cd, then maybe a virtual installation might be adequate, but virtualization slows ur system. basically, if u want to have a good functional system, a cd wont hurt much to buy. burn it to a cd, and install it from the cd, set it to be side by side with windows.

sorry but i'v tryed installing the Ubuntu ISO to isntall with mounting it as a CD then trying to install it on my other partition, just like any other system i would do, and it has worked many other times, but for some reason its not wanting to let me pick the option to boot up ubuntu or XP so i guess my XP is fucking stupid
